Calon Ségur "The Book"

The estate
Calon was the name given to the boat that was used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who was given this estate as a wedding gift, added his surname and thus marked the birth of this Saint-Estephe 3rd Grand Cru Classé. Château Calon-Ségur remained owned by the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the estate was acquired by Suravenir Assurances. The current owners continue to produce Saint-Estèphe wines that boast an inimitable style marked by the appellation’s seal. Moreover, Château Calon Ségur became famous for the label that adorns its bottles. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the estate's symbol and pays tribute to the words of Marquis de Ségur himself: "I make wine in Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon". For nearly three centuries, lovers of Château Calon Ségur’s wines have remained true to this appellation’s illustrious estate.

The vineyard
Château Calon Ségur’s vineyard spreads across 50 hectares of vines of which 48 hectares are used for the production of wine. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted on a thick layer of Garonne gravel, that dates back to the fourth century, along with a thin layer of clay with lacustrine sediments on the surface.

The wine
To mark the completion of the first book that retraces the estate’s history, Château Calon Ségur is unveiling a refined and innovative box set: Château Calon Ségur ‘’The Book’’.
Comprised within a unique and elegant case, this limited edition box set includes the book that contains several centuries’ worth of history along with 5 vintages (1989, 1995, 2003, 2010, 2016) that mark five key chapters in the rich legacy of this illustrious Saint-Estèphe estate. Expressed through the complexity and finesse of these five bottles and through the prose that emphasises the heritage-filled history, Château Calon Ségur’s The Book invites you on a sensory and temporal journey around one of the most iconic names on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.
